Stranahan House

Stranahan House

Stranahan House is the home of Fort Lauderdale pioneers Frank and Ivy Stranahan, built in 1901 as a trading post on the New River and converted into their residence in 1906. It is the oldest surviving structure in Broward County, often called the 'birthplace of Fort Lauderdale.' The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and now operates as a historic house museum.

Alfred and Olive Thorpe Lustron House

1950

Built in 1950 at 1001 Northeast 2nd Street, the Alfred and Olive Thorpe Lustron House is an example of the rare prefabricated, porcelain-enameled steel Lustron house typology. Alfred and Olive Thorpe purchased it in 1951 from the Craftsman Home Corporation, a distributor for the Lustron Corporation.
