St. Joseph's Church, in the Ten Broeck Triangle section of Arbor Hill, is a neo-Gothic church designed by Patrick Charles Keely, who also designed the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The site was purchased for $45,000, ground was broken in 1855, the cornerstone laid in 1856, and the church completed in 1860 at a cost of about $250,000; its dedication drew bishops from across the ecclesiastical Province of New York, including the Archbishop of New York. It is considered a city landmark and an important part of the Albany skyline, though it closed in 1994 and the city put it up for sale in February 2023.

the building

A cathedral-scale dedication. The 1860 dedication was attended by every bishop in the ecclesiastical Province of New York, including the Bishop of Albany, the Archbishop of New York, the Bishop of Boston, and the Bishop of Newfoundland — an unusually large gathering for a parish church.

the style

St. Joseph's is a neo-Gothic church edifice, designed by Patrick Keely in the same idiom he used for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
