Fenway Park
- City
- Boston, MA
Fenway Park has been the home of the Boston Red Sox since 1912, making it the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball. Built that year and substantially rebuilt in 1934, it occupies a tight, irregular site in the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood that forced in the park's signature quirks — the Green Monster in left field, Pesky's Pole, and The Triangle in center.
the building
The Green Monster. Left field is walled off by the Green Monster, one of several quirky features — alongside Pesky's Pole and The Triangle in center field — born directly from the ballpark's cramped urban site in Fenway-Kenmore.
A small ballpark. Fenway is the fifth-smallest ballpark in MLB by seating and the second-smallest by total capacity, one of only nine that cannot hold 40,000 spectators.
significance
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and pending designation as Boston Landmark #108. Fenway has hosted the World Series eleven times — the Red Sox winning six and the Boston Braves one — along with football games for the Boston Redskins, Yanks, and Patriots, concerts, soccer, and the NHL Winter Classic in both 2010 and 2023.
