The Chicago Club is a private social club founded in 1869 and housed in a Romanesque Revival clubhouse designed by Alfred Hoyt Granger at 81 East Van Buren Street at Michigan Avenue in the Loop. It grew out of the informal Dearborn Club, a group of Chicago businessmen who met to drink and play cards until the Cook County Sheriff shut them down in 1868; when members reorganized in January 1869, a $100 membership fee drew many of the city's most prominent businessmen, politicians, and families. The clubhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
