The Montgomery is a 404-foot, 26-story skyscraper on the Near North Side, built in 1972 as the corporate headquarters for the Montgomery Ward Company. It was designed by Minoru Yamasaki, who was working on the World Trade Center towers in New York at the same time, and the building was converted from offices to residential use in 2005-2006.

the building

Part of a corporate complex. The tower was built as part of the larger Montgomery Ward Company Complex, serving as the headquarters for the retail and mail-order giant before its conversion to condominiums in the mid-2000s.

the style

Yamasaki designed the Montgomery in a modern idiom during the same period he was designing the World Trade Center, giving the tower a place in the architect's high-rise output of the early 1970s.
