The Forthmann House, now USC Community House, is a 4,200-square-foot Victorian house built around 1887 and designed by architect Burgess J. Reeve. It originally stood at 629 W. 18th Street before being relocated on November 23, 1988, to 1101 W. 28th Street—today's 2801 S. Hoover Street—in the North University Park Historic District.

the building

House and carriage house, both moved. The Forthmann Carriage House, a secondary structure originally built alongside the main house, was relocated separately to Angelino Heights at 812 E. Edgeware Road, splitting the original estate between two different neighborhoods.

the style

The house is recorded in the Renaissance Revival mode, one strand of the eclectic architectural vocabulary common to Los Angeles residential building in the 1880s.
