Silent-film star Harold Lloyd built the Greenacres estate in Benedict Canyon in the late 1920s, purchasing the land in 1923 for $100,000 near the Pickfair estate of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. The 44-room mansion originally sat on 15 acres with a golf course, outbuildings, and a 900-foot canoe run, and remained Lloyd's home until his death in 1971.

the building

Subdivided after Lloyd's death. After Lloyd died, the estate's lower acreage along Benedict Canyon was subdivided into roughly 15 large home lots, while the mansion atop its own hill kept about 5 original acres of flat land.

the style

The estate blends Renaissance Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, and Mediterranean Revival architecture, an eclectic Revival mix once called 'the most impressive movie star's estate ever created.'
