The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, founded by filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, businessperson Mellody Hobson, is under construction in Exposition Park to hold visual storytelling in every form — painting, photography, sculpture, illustration, comic art, and video. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, it is expected to open on September 22, 2026.

The collection. Holdings include work by Judy Baca, Norman Rockwell, Diego Rivera, Carrie Mae Weems, Jacob Lawrence, and Jack Kirby, plus the archive tied to Judy Baca's half-mile mural The History of California, popularly known as the Great Wall of Los Angeles, and Robert Colescott's George Washington Carver Crossing the Delaware River.

the style

Neo-Futurism (c. 1990–present): Sculptural techno-optimism: sweeping white shells, skeletal ribs, and winglike canopies.
