56 Leonard Street, nicknamed the Jenga Building for its stacked, cantilevered form, is an 821-foot, 57-story skyscraper in Tribeca designed by the Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron, which described it as "houses stacked in the sky." Completed in 2017, it is the tallest structure in Tribeca.

the building

A stalled tower. Alexico Group's Izak Senbahar purchased the land and air rights in 2007 from the New York Law School for $150 million, and construction began that year. Foundation work started in 2008 but was halted before year's end, and the project sat idle for nearly four years before resuming in October 2012, backed by a $350 million loan syndicate led by Bank of America in 2013.

the style

The building is an example of high-tech architecture, expressed through its stacked, jutting massing of individual house-like volumes.
