The Daryl Roth Theatre occupies a building designed by architect Henry Bacon and constructed in 1905–1907 as the Union Square Savings Bank. The bank was founded in 1848 as the Institution for the Savings of Merchants' Clerks and moved through several downtown locations before settling at this Union Square corner; the building later found a second life as an off-Broadway performance space that opened in 1998.
