Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital, formerly Lenox Health Greenwich Village, occupies a 1964 building designed by Albert C. Ledner as headquarters for the National Maritime Union. It later became a hospital building under Saint Vincent's Hospital and then Northwell Health, and sits within the Greenwich Village Historic District.

the building

An ocean-liner facade. Ledner gave the building a white facade with porthole-like windows, scalloped overhangs, and an elevator penthouse shaped like a steamship smokestack, a design that stood out against the glass-box Modernism common at the time. Ceramic tiles added in 1966 were removed in a 2014–2016 renovation.

the architect

Albert C. Ledner designed this building as one of three Lower Manhattan headquarters buildings for the National Maritime Union; another survives today as the Maritime Hotel.
