significance
Beyond Blaine, the house passed through a remarkable list of occupants: businessmen Levi Leiter and George Westinghouse, French ambassador Jules Patenotre, the United Service Club during World War I, the Japanese embassy and Colombian Ambassador Enrique Olaya Herrera afterward, the Rural Electrification Administration during the Depression, Fiorello La Guardia's Office of Civilian Defense in World War II, and later a partial lease by the United Nations. It is listed as a DC Historic Landmark and as a National Register of Historic Places contributing property.
