A few months after their 1809 wedding, Timothy Fuller and Margaret Crane Fuller paid the then-considerable sum of $6,000 for this three-story Federal-style house at 71 Cherry Street in Cambridge. Their daughter, the transcendentalist writer Margaret Fuller, was born here on May 23, 1810, and lived in the house until she was 16. It is now a National Historic Landmark.
the style
The house is a three-story wood-frame example of the Federal style, built in the early 19th century as a family home in the newly developing Cambridgeport neighborhood.
More on Federalsignificance
In 1902 the house became the Margaret Fuller House of Cambridge, a settlement house helping immigrants assimilate into American life. It continues that mission today as the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House, serving the Port neighborhood of Cambridge.
