The Z. E. Cliff House is a large shingle-and-gambrel-roofed house at 29 Powderhouse Terrace in Somerville's Powder House Square, built around 1900 by a prominent local developer for his own use. Facing Nathan Tufts Park, it stands as one of the city's finest examples of residential Shingle style architecture.

The gambrel roof. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house is topped by a broad cross-gabled gambrel roof. Each side gable carries a Palladian three-part window near its center and a half-round window near the peak, while the front gambrel has a projecting attic level with a recessed pair of diamond-pane sash windows.
the style
The house blends Colonial Revival massing with Shingle style detailing, visible in its gambrel roofline, Palladian windows, and shingle-clad porch posts.
