This twelve-story Gothic Revival office tower, designed by Jens J. Jensen and completed in 1927, rose on a site that had been a commercial warehouse since 1879, when the Armour-Dole Grain Company built there. Carson Pirie Scott and Company later used the warehouse for wholesale storage before redeveloping the site into office space as Chicago's business district pushed west along the river, following the 1925 completion of Union Station.
the building
Terracotta Gothic dress. The tower is clad in architectural terracotta, the material of choice for dressing steel-framed office buildings in Gothic Revival ornament during the 1920s.
the style
Built in the Gothic Revival style with terracotta cladding, part of a wave of 1920s towers that dressed steel-frame construction in historic ornament as the Loop's business district expanded west across the river.
