The Arthur J. Dunham House, built around 1907 to designs by the Chicago firm Tallmadge and Watson, is a Prairie School house at 3131 S. Wisconsin Avenue in Berwyn. It's the only house in town built to this design, and the same family has owned it since construction, keeping it essentially intact.
the building
Horizontal Prairie lines. The house emphasizes the style's signature horizontality through a lateral porch, a low hipped roof, and an open floor plan — Prairie School massing applied to a single Berwyn lot.
the style
Prairie School architecture prized horizontal lines and open planes over verticality, and the Dunham House delivers both in its low roofline and lateral porch.
