The rear portion of the Iglehart House was built in 1857 for Charles D. Iglehart, whose farmstead once covered the land between 111th, 115th, Rockwell, and Western in what became Chicago's Morgan Park neighborhood. It's one of the city's oldest surviving buildings — Iglehart's daughter Mary, born in the house that year, was the first recorded birth in the future village of Morgan Park. Iglehart was also a founder of Chicago's Church of the Mediator, whose first building went up in 1889 at 110th and Hoyne Avenue on land donated by the Blue Island Land and Building Company.

the building

The 1870s addition. As the family grew, a two-story front portion was added onto the original 1857 rear structure in the 1870s, giving the Italianate house the form it has today.

the style

The house is built in the Italianate style; its architect is unrecorded.
