Built in 1924 for the Lindemann and Hoverson Company, which manufactured heaters, stoves, and electric kitchen tools, this East Garfield Park loft building was designed by architect Paul Gerhardt, Sr. Industrial buildings of the era were typically left plain, but Gerhardt gave this one formal, ornamented facades. Lindemann and Hoverson occupied the building until 1941.

the building

Showroom facade. The first two floors on the west side, which held the company showroom, are clad in terra cotta with pilasters and a frieze. The rest of the building is brick, but even there terra cotta medallions and a cornice carry the ornament through.

the style

Executed in the Renaissance Revival style — an unusually formal treatment for what was, functionally, a stove and heater warehouse.
