The Waller Apartments at 2840-58 W. Walnut Street were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1895 for developer Edward C. Waller, a prominent figure in Chicago's rebuilding after the 1871 fire. Wright and Waller had also collaborated on the Francisco Terrace apartments, both projects built to carry out Waller's pioneering idea of subsidized housing for lower-income tenants.
