The Polish National Alliance built this Art Deco headquarters at 1514-1520 W. Division Street, opening it in 1938 after years of delay caused by the Depression and internal conflict. The Alliance, a fraternal organization founded in 1880 to aid new Polish immigrants and campaign for an independent Poland, used the building as its national headquarters until 1976.

the building

A hub for wartime and postwar organizing. From this building the Alliance raised money for U.S. troops during World War II, helped win passage of a law admitting Polish refugees to the United States after the war, and helped establish the Polish American Congress.

the style

Architect Joseph A. Slupkowski designed the headquarters in the Art Deco style.
