The St. Regis Chicago, formerly the Wanda Vista Tower, is a 101-story, 1,198-foot supertall skyscraper in the Lakeshore East development, completed in 2020 as Chicago's third-tallest building, after the Willis Tower and Trump Tower. It was designed by Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects for Magellan Development Group, which had already hired Gang for the nearby Aqua tower and brought her back for this project in 2014, developing it jointly with China's Wanda Group.

the building

From Wanda Vista to St. Regis. The tower broke ground on September 6, 2016, and topped out in 2019 as the Wanda Vista Tower. Wanda sold its ownership stake to Magellan in 2020, and the building was renamed the St. Regis Chicago that November after St. Regis Hotels & Resorts agreed to run the hotel; the rooms didn't actually open until 2023, delayed by uncertainty over who would operate its restaurants, while condominium sales lagged expectations.

the style

Contemporary Modern (c. 1990–present): Today's default architecture: floor-to-ceiling glass, crisp panel facades, bold cantilevers, and mixed materials.
