Apple Michigan Avenue is Apple's flagship store for Chicago and the Midwest, standing at 401 North Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile next to Pioneer Court. Designed by Foster and Partners, it replaced Apple's original Chicago location a few blocks north at 679 North Michigan Avenue, which closed in 2017 after 14 years in business.

the building

The original store. Apple North Michigan Avenue, serial number R035, opened June 27, 2003 as Apple's first flagship store anywhere and the first Apple Store in Chicago. Its 30,000-square-foot, three-floor space had a stone facade with an apple-logo-shaped window, a green roof, a skylight, and a signature glass staircase.

the style

The current store presents as a glass pavilion on Michigan Avenue, a contrast to the stone-clad original location a few blocks north.
