Originally the Viceroy Hotel, the Union Park Hotel at 1519-1521 W. Warren Boulevard was built in 1929-30 by architect Benjamin Albert Comm as an apartment hotel, a common housing type for Chicago laborers in the 1920s. Its Art Deco design was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2010.

the building

Vertical piers. The building's piers give it the vertical emphasis typical of Art Deco work, paired with geometric decorative elements.

Color on the facade. Its brick and terra cotta facade uses color extensively, a trait unusual among Chicago's other Art Deco buildings.

the style

The design reflects the national popularity of Art Deco in the late 1920s, expressed here through vertical piers, geometric ornament, and an unusually colorful brick and terra cotta facade.
