The New Museum of Contemporary Art at 235 Bowery on the Lower East Side was founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker. Designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA, it moved through several homes before settling on the Bowery, including the New School's Graduate Center, the Astor Building in SoHo, and a stint at the Chelsea Art Museum.
