The Hajoca Corporation Headquarters and Showroom went up in University City in 1921 and was expanded in 1930, a two-story, flat-roofed commercial building clad in limestone with decorative brickwork. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, and today the building has a second life as the home of WXPN radio and the World Cafe Live music venue.

the building

Limestone and brickwork. The exterior is clad in limestone and detailed with decorative brickwork, dressing a commercial showroom in the crisp lines of the Art Deco style rather than the setback towers more typical of the era's skyscrapers.

WXPN and World Cafe Live. The building now houses public radio station WXPN and the World Cafe Live venue, a live music room built into the former commercial showroom space.

the style

The building was designed in the Art Deco style, expressed here through its flat roofline, limestone cladding, and decorative brickwork rather than through height or ornament.
