Riggs National Bank's headquarters at 1503-1505 Pennsylvania Avenue NW was designed by York and Sawyer in 1899 and completed in 1902 in the Classical Revival style, giving the bank a monumental presence on Washington's financial row. A western office wing by Appleton P. Clark Jr. was added between 1922 and 1924.

the style

The Neoclassical exterior so closely matches the firm's later American Security and Trust Company building next door that the two are sometimes considered a single design.
