Built in 1892 for Walter H. Wright, owner of a milk can manufacturer, the Wright House at 54 Vinal Avenue in Somerville was designed by architect Shepard S. Woodcock. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

the building

Shingles over Queen Anne massing. The house is predominantly Queen Anne in its massing, with numerous projecting bays and a turret-like section over the single-story front porch, but most of its surfaces are shingled, including bands of decorative cut shingles.

the style

The house blends Queen Anne massing with a Shingle-style skin, its projecting bays and turret-like porch section wrapped in shingles rather than clapboard, with decorative cut-shingle banding.
