Broadway Mart Center is a ten-story highrise at 401-423 South Broadway in the Broadway Theater District, designed by the architectural duo of Parkinson and Bergstrom and completed in 1915. It replaced the three-story Hallett & Pirtle Building on the same corner and served for nearly sixty years as the flagship store of The Broadway.

the building

Flagship of The Broadway. Arthur Letts bought a foothold in The Broadway within a single storefront of the earlier building in 1896; by 1904 the store filled the entire ground floor, and by 1905 the upper floors too, before this larger building rose to house the flagship.

the style

Rendered in Renaissance Revival and Beaux-Arts style, matching the scale and dignity Parkinson and Bergstrom gave to a flagship department store on Broadway's historic theater and retail corridor.
