Contractor Clarence Hudson Burrell built Don Carlos Court in 1927 at 374-386 S. Marengo Ave. in Pasadena, arranging seven stucco homes with tiled gable roofs around a central courtyard and walkway. A decorative birdbath and planter anchor the shared courtyard, a Spanish Colonial Revival take on the bungalow-court form popular in 1920s Pasadena.

The courtyard. A decorative birdbath and planter sit at the center of the walkway that the court's seven homes face, the shared garden space that defines the bungalow-court type.

the style

The Spanish Colonial Revival detailing here runs to stucco walls and tiled gable roofs, a pairing standard to 1920s Southern California courts but consistently applied across all seven units.
