Built in 1904 on Figueroa Street in Highland Park, the Ziegler Estate blends Queen Anne and American Craftsman detailing near the Southwest Museum. In the 1950s, Southwest Museum director Carl Dentzel purchased the house as a planned addition to the museum's complex, which already included Casa de Adobe and the Braun Research Library. The building later served as a day-care facility before closing for renovation.

The house combines Queen Anne and American Craftsman elements, a pairing that reflects its 1904 construction date, a moment when Los Angeles builders were shifting from Victorian-era ornament toward the simpler Craftsman idiom that would soon dominate Highland Park.
