The IAC Building is the headquarters of the media company IAC, completed in 2007 at 555 West 18th Street in Chelsea. Designed by Frank Gehry, it was his first full building in New York City, and its lobby once held the world's largest high-definition screen.

the building

Glass sails. The building reads as two stacked masses: a wide base of twisted, tower-like sections packed together, topped by a narrower bundle above. Full-height windows fade from clear to white at the top and bottom of each floor, giving the cladding the look of sails stretched over the frame, though the building is actually ten stories tall.

Diller's smooth glass. Barry Diller, IAC's chief and closely involved in the design, insisted the facade be smooth glass rather than the wrinkled titanium Gehry originally proposed.

the style

Gehry's deconstructivist approach here abandons flat walls for curved, twisting glass forms grouped like cells, an effect Vanity Fair called one of the world's most attractive office buildings.
