Built in 1916 as a three-story, 21,346-square-foot facility in a Classical Revival design, the 32nd St. and Lancaster Ave. Armory housed the Pennsylvania Army National Guard's 103rd Engineering Battalion beginning in the 1920s. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, it sat on Drexel University's campus until the university began leasing parts of it in 2008.

the building

Armory to squash center. The armory closed in 2019 for a renovation that converted the former drill facility into the Arlen Specter US Squash Center, completed in 2021 and now the headquarters of US Squash.

the style

The building's Classical Revival design gave a fortress-like, dressed civic front to what was, for most of its history, a working military armory.
