This Greek Revival church at 330 South 13th Street was built in 1839-40 for the St. Luke's congregation, designed by architect Thomas Somerville Stewart. In 1898, St. Luke's merged with the Church of the Epiphany, founded in 1834, consolidating at this location as the Church of St. Luke and The Epiphany, an Episcopal parish of the Diocese of Pennsylvania.

the building

Additions over time. The original 1839-40 building was expanded with additions and renovations in 1875 and 1906, layering later work onto Stewart's Greek Revival design.

the style

Stewart designed the church in the Greek Revival style, then the fashionable idiom for American religious and civic buildings, favored for its associations with democratic ideals.
