Climate Pledge Arena sits on the Seattle Center campus, built for the 1962 World's Fair on the site of the original Washington State Pavilion, designed by Paul Thiry. The city bought and renovated the building in 1964 into the Seattle Center Coliseum, and a $1.15 billion redevelopment from 2018 to 2021 turned it into the current arena while preserving Thiry's original roof and window curtain walls.

the building

The preserved roof. The 2018-2021 redevelopment kept Paul Thiry's original roof and exterior window curtain walls from the 1962 building, which were landmarked by the city in 2017 and added to both the Washington State Heritage Register and the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

South atrium entrance. An extended atrium built onto the south end of the arena during the redevelopment houses the entrance to the modern venue, which seats 17,151 for ice hockey, 18,300 for basketball, and up to 17,340 for concerts.
