Old Engine Company 26
- Style
- Tudor Revival
- City
- Washington, DC
Built in 1908 as Chemical Company No. 3, this Tudor Revival firehouse at 2715 22nd Street NE answered a petition by the Northeastern Citizens' Suburban Association for fire protection in the Langdon neighborhood, then outside the city's hydrant system. It was later renamed Engine Company 26 and closed in 1940 when its company moved to Rhode Island Avenue NE; the city then sold the building at auction rather than adopt neighbors' proposal to convert it into a library or community center.
the style
The firehouse was built in the Tudor Revival style, distinguishing it from the plainer utilitarian firehouses common to the period.
