Old Engine Company No. 10 is a former firehouse at 1341 Maryland Avenue NE in Stanton Park, just north of Capitol Hill, built in 1894-95 in the Queen Anne style. It's one of eight Washington firehouses designed by architect Leon E. Dessez, and it housed Engine Company 10 from the day the company organized, July 2, 1895, until the company moved out in 1940.

the building

The first apparatus. Engine Company 10 organized here in 1895 equipped with an 1884 Clapp & Jones steam fire engine rated at 450 gallons per minute and an 1895 McDermott Bros. hose reel carriage — horse-drawn gear typical of the fire service just before motorization. The company moved to a new firehouse on Florida Avenue in 1940.

the style

Queen Anne (c. 1875–1905): The exuberant Victorian: corner turrets, wraparound porches, spindle trim, and a different texture on every story.
