The house at 5 Prospect Hill in Somerville is a rare local example of a Queen Anne house built in brick, dating to about 1880. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

the building

Polygonal bay window. A polygonal bay projects from the house's left-front gable section, its segmented-arch window openings separated by bands of polychrome brickwork.

Two-story porch. A two-story porch runs from the side of the projecting gable section across the rest of the front, complemented by bargeboard accents in the gables and terra cotta insets set into the brickwork.

the style

Queen Anne houses in Somerville were typically built in wood, which makes this house's brick construction, polychrome brick banding, and terra cotta insets an unusual variant of the style.
