Greenwood Memorial United Methodist Church, at 378A-380 Washington Street in Dorchester, was designed by Walter J. Paine and built in 1900-01 in the shingle style for a Methodist congregation organized in 1838. The church took its current name in 1913, after parishioner Charles H. Greenwood made a major bequest in memory of his mother, Sarah.

the style

Paine built the church in the shingle style, then widely used across New England for both houses and churches, giving this turn-of-the-century Dorchester congregation a fashionable, up-to-date building.
