The Prescott Estate at 770 Centre Street in Newton centers on a stone Medieval Revival house built around 1874 for Henry Pazolt, a Boston cigar merchant, whose stone construction is rare for a Newton house of its era. The Prescott family acquired it around 1886, and the Carroll Center for the Blind bought the estate in 1954.
the building
Stone construction. The main house is a rare local example of residential stone construction rendered in the Medieval Revival style. The estate also retains a period carriage house and garage from its 19th-century working life.
the style
Built in the Medieval Revival style around 1874, the main house's stone construction was uncommon among Newton's mostly wood-frame Victorian houses.
