The House at 35 Temple Street in Somerville was one of the few surviving 18th-century houses in the city, a 2½-story wood-frame structure probably built between 1750 and 1780 and likely moved to the site from Broadway or Mystic Avenue in the 19th century. It retained most of its Georgian features and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
the building
Gambrel roof. The steeply pitched gambrel roof was one of the house's most intact Georgian features, a holdover from its likely 18th-century construction.
the style
Federal (c. 1780–1830): Refined American Georgian: oval fanlights over doors, slender proportions, and delicate garland ornament.
More on Federalsignificance
