The Andalusia is a 1926 Spanish Colonial Revival apartment complex at 1471-1475 Havenhurst Drive in Hollywood, built around a landscaped interior courtyard by architects Arthur and Nina Zwebell. Just south of Sunset Boulevard near the Chateau Marmont, it drew a run of Golden Age Hollywood tenants and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

the building

The courtyard. The Zwebells organized the building around a richly landscaped central courtyard finished with exposed and cantilevered wood beams, carved wood, wrought iron, terracotta roof tiles, buff-colored stucco, cast concrete, and brick, drawing on Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean, Moorish, and Mission Revival traditions.

Hollywood tenants. Over the decades the Andalusia's units housed film stars including Sondra Locke, Clara Bow, Marlon Brando, Jean Hagen, John Payne, Teresa Wright, Louis L'Amour, Claire Bloom, and Cesar Romero, with actor Jason Schwartzman occupying a unit in more recent years.

the style

The Zwebells, noted for courtyard apartment design in Los Angeles, blended Spanish Colonial Revival with Mediterranean, Moorish, and Mission Revival materials and detailing rather than a single pure style, characteristic of the courtyard-apartment type they helped popularize.
