Built in 1927 on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood as a luxury apartment building for the entertainment industry, the Hacienda Arms Apartments is a four-story, 52,000-square-foot Italian Renaissance Revival and Mediterranean Revival structure. It has also been known as the Coronet Apartments and, since a 1986 renovation, Piazza del Sol.

the building

From brothel to production offices. In the 1930s the building became, by one account, 'the most famous brothel in California,' before declining through the 1950s and 60s. Rock star Rod Stewart bought it in the 1970s with plans for a luxury hotel that ended in legal dispute, and a suspicious 1983 fire followed before a full renovation. It now houses production company offices, including Miramax Films, and the restaurant Katana, co-owned by Ryan Seacrest and Tori Spelling.

the style

The building's Italian Renaissance Revival design, sourced from Mediterranean Revival precedent, was chosen for a 1927 luxury apartment building aimed at the entertainment business taking hold along the Sunset Strip.
