The George W. Furbeck House at 223 N. Euclid Avenue was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1897 for Chicago electrical contractor George W. Furbeck and his bride, Sue Allin Harrington, on a lot Furbeck's father had bought five years earlier. Built in the Queen Anne style, it captures Wright in transition — a step in the late-1890s evolution that would culminate in his first fully mature Prairie style house.

Interior largely unchanged. While the exterior has seen some alteration, the house's interior remains much as it appeared when construction finished in 1897, offering a comparatively unaltered look at Wright's work from this period.

the style

The Furbeck House is cast in Queen Anne, but historians treat it as a hinge point in Wright's development — one of the designs that carried him out of his early historicist phase and toward the horizontal Prairie style he would soon make his own.
