Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Laura Gale House in 1909 for Laura R. Gale, a widow whose family had already commissioned two smaller "bootleg" houses from Wright on nearby Chicago Avenue. Built during what is considered Wright's most productive Prairie period, it has been cited by architectural historians as a milestone in the development of early modern architecture.
the building
Rosenwinkel restoration. The house was occupied by the Gale family until 1962, when architect Howard Rosenwinkel bought it and carried out a meticulous restoration. It is now owned by Andrea Kayne and Andrew C. Mead.
the style
The house dates from Wright's most productive Prairie School years, a period architectural authorities point to when tracing the style's development toward early modernism.
