Ye College Inn opened in 1909 at the northeast corner of University Way NE and NE 40th Street, one of the few Seattle-area commercial buildings still displaying Tudor Revival styling. Landowner J.R. Hendren commissioned it through a corporation formed in 1908, contractor S.E. Young built it for $30,000, and developer Charles Cowen — namesake of nearby Cowen Park — was behind the project; Emily Cridland managed the inn when it opened. Its opening day coincided with the start of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition at the adjacent University of Washington campus, making it one of the few commercial buildings ready in time for the fair.

the style

The inn is one of the few remaining commercial buildings in the Seattle area built in the Tudor Revival style, designed by the regional firm Graham & Myers in late 1908.
